Becoming A Mother

By bro Lee Tian Seng

A woman becomes a mother when she is pregnant and carries her baby in her womb. God has given us mothers who are extraordinary in the way they care for their children. We need to appreciate mothers for:

1. Their sacrificial love for their children

A mother cares for her child even before the birth of her child. New first-time mothers need to learn how to love and care for their babies and this can be stressful when they do not have guidance and support from older women who are experienced mothers. Yet, we see mothers overcoming physical, mental and emotional challenges to be good mothers. We should give them support and help them accept their shortcomings since no mother is perfect.

Titus 2:4-5 - That they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

2. Their spiritual guidance

Mothers not only take care of their children’s physical needs, they are also teachers to their children. They teach their children about God and His love. They teach their children the Word of God so that they will understand the Gospel and the need to obey it when they grow up. This is a tremendous responsibility because it concerns the salvation of their children.

2 Timothy 3:14-15 - But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

3. Their godly examples

Godly mothers worship and put God first in their lives and are examples to their children. Their children grow up desiring to be like their mothers in their devotion and love for the Lord.

Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

2 Timothy 1:5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.
