Time flies. Sooner than I realise, we have been worshipping at Eastside Church of Christ for two months.
I remembered when I was asked to join the new work a year ago, I felt a little worried because we didn’t have a large number of members to start this new congregation. This meant to me, that all of us, including myself, had to be more engaged and involved in the Lord’s work. As I was not fluent in the English language and also limited in my Bible knowledge, I was a little apprehensive and unsure of how I could contribute to this new work. After much hesitation, I thought for a long time and I concluded that this is a good work for the Lord and there is a definite necessity to spread the Gospel to other parts of Singapore. These reasons helped me decide to move beyond my comfort zone as well as leave the familiar brothers and sisters-in-Christ at LAP to join in the battle to bring glory to our mighty Father in Heaven. As Paul wrote in Phil. 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”. I am sure He will give us the strength to deal with any uncertainties we face along the way. We also must always remember that God knows our labour for His cause, and we also have like-minded brethren in the this new work.
Heb 6:10 — For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
I remembered the first day of worship at Eastside Church of Christ. I stepped into the auditorium and saw all the members greeting one another with big smiles on their faces. The atmosphere was so warm and cosy to me. It was a fresh start to me and till today, I’m heartened by each and everyone’s labour for the Lord. The lessons prepared by the brethren have been so detailed and I appreciate the questions given as they have motivated me to study the Bible more so that I can answer them. I believe that by answering the questions given in class, it will help me in my understanding of the lessons. The lessons on evangelism are also extremely useful to us when we reach out to our friends and family when we invite them to visit us. These efforts will help me, and I am sure all of us, to handle difficult questions about Christ. I recalled how someone once asked me why God allowed the existence of evil. My answer revolved around how we are created as free moral beings and are given the choice to decide how we lead our lives in alignment with the gospel.
As Christians, we may not even have the answer to every question. This is why, as children of God, we have to trust and obey Him. Our obedience to God is a display of our love for Him, it is how we can reciprocate His love for us. With this in mind, we can look forward to our eternal abode with Him and His Son.
As John 14:23 reads, “if a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”
